FORMER SPENCER MAN DREU FERGUSON SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON OVER MURDERS

(06/08/2015)
A former Spencer man who was charged with two deaths in Spencer and the murder of his 58-year-old father in New Jersey, has now been sentenced to life in prison.

Dreu Ferguson Jr., 39, moved to Spencer in 1997 with his pregnant wife Jessica.

Both were charged in the death of their five week old son, officials saying he died of head injuries. Both were acquitted in Spencer of causing the child's death

Ferguson was later charged in the shooting death of his neighbor, William Freas III, who was resting on his porch on Beauty Street.

That case first ended in a mis-trial, but Ferguson was then convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years. He served five years and his conviction was overturned.

After being discharged from prison, Ferguson killed his father in New Jersey, records saying over a teapot, and then burying his body under the back porch of his home. He covered the body with lime and fertilizer.

The body of the elder Ferguson was found a short time after he went missing. He had worked as a security guard and was a well-known local blues musician who had recorded albums.
