FIREMEN EXTRACT VICTIMS FROM RT. 5 CRASH - Bread Truck-Car Crash Causes Injuries, One Life-Flighted To Medical Center

A Memorial Weekend crash at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Rt. 5 between a bread truck and a car sent one man in the car to a medical center by chopper, and other passengers in his vehicle were transported to Minnie Hamilton Health System.

The accident happened in Calhoun east of the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center, near the Gilmer line.

The occupants of the car were from Massachusetts, with sources at the scene indicating they were lost.

They were reportedly suffering from back and neck pain.

Ron Petty of Parkersburg, the driver of the bread truck, and his elderly father did not receive injuries.

Sources at the scene indicated the accident was related to passing.

Firemen from the Grantsville and Gilmer County VFDs spent well over an hour extracting two of the victims of the car, using extraction devices and cutting saws.

Minnnie Hamilton and Gilmer County EMS transported patients to Minnie Hamilton Health System.

State Police are investigating the accident.
