FBI EXECUTES SEARCH WARRANT ON LEWIS CO. BUSINESS - Related To 1999 Murder Case Of Two Women Never Found

(05/14/2015)
The FBI and members of the Harrison and Lewis County sheriff's departments executed a search warrant at a Jane Lew business, Wednesday in connection to a 1999 murder case.

Authorities were on scene at the Robin's Nest Travel Center, most of the day, looking for evidence in the disappearance of Maxine Stalnaker and Mary Friend.

The search for Stalnaker and Friend extended into Gilmer and Calhoun County.

It is unclear exactly what authorities were looking for. Calls to authorities have not been returned yet.

Joseph Metz and Charles Freeman are set to face murder charges in the case next month.

Stalnaker and Friend's bodies have not been found.

In 2014, Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy arrested Joseph Edward Metz of Horner, charging him with two counts of first-degree murder involving the death's of the women.

Maxine Stalnaker and her daughter, Mary Friend, disappeared in December 1999 after they left their Jane Lew home on a Christmas shopping trip, never to be found.

Metz is Friend's son and Stalnaker's grandson. Three men, including Metz, were initially charged in the slayings, with charges dropped against them.
