WEST CENTRAL BEEKEEPERS HAVE APRIL MEETING

(05/05/2015)
Submitted by Al Darman
Secretary, WCBA

The West Central Beekeepers Association's April meeting was called to order by President Dale Cunningham and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Al Darman, was recited by all.

There were 52 members and 2 visitors present which included all officers. Three new member families were welcomed to the club: Larry Caswell, Margie and Chris Dalzell and Eddy Richard.

Dale reported the grant for cost sharing nucs, bee packages, medication, and sugar food was progressing.

Participating members delivered their hives and Judy Kerns labelled all according to their ownership and distribution sites. Volunteers were identified to coordinate each distribution center: Erma Davis for Spencer, Vonda Shears and Scottie Rush for Arnoldsburg and Dale Cunningham for Mt Zion.

Donald Pye, Glenn Truppi and Al Darman volunteered to pick-up the bees and deliver them to the distribution points sometime in early May. It is too cold at this time to project the exact date.

Wildflower seeds, in one pound packages, were distributed by Terrie Bee and Zelma Boggess to the participating membership present (38). They were accompanied with a request for three pictures to be taken: one showing planting site prior to tilling, one showing the site tilled and one showing the final result.

Dale reported 25 lbs of deep and 25 lbs of medium foundation wax was purchased. Along with some shallow foundation from last year they were available for membership purchase at the membership rates.

Dale reminded the membership that bees are now being considered as livestock and hence are eligible for subsided insurance purchased thru the USDA. Charles Conner reported receiving payments for his lost bees. In order to be eligible for this program, interested parties must apply at the USDA in December of each year.

At 2:30 the meeting was adjourned; thanks was given by Vern Kerns, and lunch was served.
