BRUTAL ELKINS MURDER CASE WIDENS - Derrick Adamson was charged with first degree homicide for the fatal shooting at the Elkins Railyard Depot.

Adamson was also charged with grand larceny and wanton endangerment.

The Elkins Police Department responded to a call at the Mountaineer Mart in Elkins for a report of gun shots at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday and found Adamson with ammunition, but no firearm.

After the officers released Adamson, they reviewed the video footage. The footage shows Adamson talking to another man, pulling a silver object from his jacket and pointing it at the man's face, said police.

The man then dodges out of the way in an attempt to avoid something, according to court documents. After police talked with the man, he said Adamson came up to him, pulled a gun, a gun shot went off and his ear started ringing. Adamson then repeatedly said, "It jammed," and then said, "Today wasn't your day," before walking away.

On the charge of wanton endangerment, Adamson's bail is set at $500,000.

Later that night, police were called to GoMart on Railroad Avenue for a stolen vehicle complaint. A man told police he saw a man matching the description of Adamson standing nervously at the entrance. While the customer was checking out, he saw the man drive away in another customer's car, said police.

On the grand larceny charge, Adamson's bail is $100,000.

There is no bail set for the homicide charge. Adamson was moved Thursday morning from the Central Regional Jail to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

A candlelight vigil will be held for the victim of the murder Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Elkins Railyard Depot.
