State Police took a man into custody Thursday evening after he ran following a traffic stop on US 33-119 near Speedy Mart, fleeing along the West Fork of the Little Kanawha with officers in pursuit.

Arnold Wayne Brinker, 38, of Honeysuckle Lane, Mt. Zion, is in Central Regional Jail following a series of incidents at Arnoldsburg Thursday evening.

Brinker is charged with improper/expired registration, assault/battery without weapon on an officer, destruction/injury of property, DUI>.08, driving while suspended/revoked, no insurance, obstructing police with vehicle, and fleeing. Bond has been set at $7,500 at Central Regional Jail.

The man was allegedly "weaving in traffic" when a traffic stop was attempted by Cpl. J. B. Hunt.

The driver attempted to elude the officer, according to the complaint, driving through the Speedy Mart parking lot, eventually after circling the parking lot he stopped near the gas pumps, at which time the officer attempted to take him into custody.

The complaint says Brinker's eyes where bloodshot and glassy with speech slurred, when a field sobriety test was attempted, failing the test.

When a breathalyzer test was being administered, according to the complaint, Brinker got combative, saying "F--k you," attempting to strike and kick the officer, the officer attempting to subdue him with chemical maze.

The complaint says the man "seeked his dog on the officer."

Brinker then ran from the Speedy Mart parking lot across US 33-119 into a field of storage units, apparently crossing the rain-swollen West Fork of the LK with his dog, and then traveling through adjacent properties.

Three officers went in hunt of the man, who was apprehended and placed in a cruiser near the Arnoldsburg Elementary School.

The complaint says Brinker had a blood alcohol greater than .15.
