Billows of smoke erupted from storage area at Calhoun Homes

High winds sweeping through the area caused downed power lines, localized outages and fires Tuesday afternoon at three locations.

A downed electric line fell on a chin link fence between Creston Oil Company and a number of houses at Calhoun Homes at Mt. Zion, electrifying the long fence.

A grass fire erupted from the fence row and also caught the contents of a storage area attached to a maintenance building on fire, with a number of dwellings nearby.

Stored plastic pipe caused billows of smoke to errupt.

The Arnoldsburg VFD and the Grantsville VFD responded at 4:22 p.m.

The Grantsville VFD responded to a spreading brush fire on Leading Creek Rd., about three miles from State Rt. 16 (Big Springs), also linked an electric line.

The Smithville VFD also responded to the scene about 6 p.m.

Firemen were on scene about two hours.

A brush fire broke out on upper Beech Rd. near Oka Tuesday afternoon, likely from a downed line.

The Upper West Fork VFD responded to the call at 3:11 p.m.

Responders were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
