CALHOUN RANKS 30TH IN WV HEALTH RATINGS - McDowell At Bottom On Study Again, Wirt-Ritchie Fare Well

(03/27/2015)
The latest annual Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/University of Michigan says McDowell County is again the unhealthiest county in West Virginia for the sixth straight year.

The report ranks Pendleton County as the healthiest county.

The healthiest counties in West Virginia have some of the best college-going rates, preventative health options and job opportunities while the least healthy have more children living in poverty, smokers and violent crimes, says a national report released Wednesday.

Calhoun County's overall rating is 30.

Regionally, Wirt and Ritchie County ranked high.

The report uses almost 30 health factors such as smoking, drinking, adult obesity, premature deaths, and other areas including education, access to health care and unemployment.

The report is divided into two rankings — one measuring the length and quality of life and another that measures influencing factors like health behaviors, clinical care, socioeconomic status and physical environment.
