UPDATE: WEATHER BONANZA, POWER OUTAGES - High Water, Heavy Snow And A Sub-Zero Temperature

Heavy snow and ice clung to trees and
lines, a reminder of the "Great Ice Storm"

UPDATE SAT. PM - The power company is reporting 688 customer outages PM Saturday, saying all service should be restored by Sunday.

It's been a 72 hour weather bonanza this week..

With melting snow and rain causing creeks and rivers to get out of their banks, to new snow up to a foot deep in Calhoun, to a zero temperature for Thursday night and Friday morning.

The wet snow downing trees and powers lines have left 76,000 West Virginians without power.

In Calhoun, Thursday evening, the power company was reporting 1,761 customers without power (4,661 customers in the county). The power company is advising service should be restored by Saturday.

Some phone customers were reporting outages.

Calhoun highways were treacherous Thursday, as highway crews plowed the roadways.

Hur WV Winter, nearly a foot of snow

The Little Kanawha River, according to the NWS, crested early Thursday morning at nearly 34 feet, two feet below flood stage, with flood waters blocking traffic on Rt. 5 west of Grantsville and Rt. 7 Russet Road.

Numerous other low-lying areas along streams had water.

Temperatures in Calhoun and the region are predicted to fall to -4.

The good news, a warming trend next week.

Braxton, Gilmer and Ritchie counties have experienced major power outages.
