FRONTIER SAYS LONG-TIME LANDLINE PHONE SERVICE AT FIVE FORKS-BIG SPRINGS IS FIXED

(03/02/2015)
By Bob Weaver

It has taken years of hundreds of consumer complaints and eventually a formal complaint with the West Virginia Public Service Commission.

Frontier Communications is officially saying this week that the fix of longtime land-line problems in the Five Forks-Big Springs area of Calhoun is completed, according to Frontier's Angela Call, Manager of Government & External Affairs.

The sub-station replacement and repair of antiquated land-line equipment comes after years of connection problems for about 300 customers, a problem that has worsened during the past two years.

Frontier, according to land-line customers, had long ignored the outages, resulting in an official complaint issued against Frontier by the Calhoun Commission in May, 2014.

About 10 months later Frontier says, "We are pleased to report that the project was complete as of February 18, 2015."

"All customers located in the Big Springs and Five Forks areas were moved to one of the two new TA5000 remotes," the final report says.

The company says with a few minor issues, the cut-over was a success.

Frontier, in their final report to the Calhoun Commission about the problem said, "This is a highly rural area that is difficult to serve. However, we understand the frustration of the customers while they have awaited this service upgrade...that seemed to hit snags and unexpected delays at every turn."

Customers, during a WV-PSC public hearing, said that longtime land-line disconnects had become a "way of life," causing distress particularly for elderly citizens to send or receive well-being calls or call for emergency services.
