Kenneth Blaine Boggs, 82 - Linden

(02/23/2015)
Kenneth Blaine Boggs, 82, son, brother, father, and loving husband passed away peacefully in his home at Linden WV, on February 22, 2015 after an extended illness.

He was born March 24, 1932, the eldest son of Byrd Kenneth Boggs and Hallie Virginia Gandee Boggs, whom preceded him in death.

His brother, Curtis Lee Boggs (and wife-Phyllis Starcher Boggs) of Linden survives his passing as does his lovely and sweet wife of 57 years, Rita Ann McAlister Boggs and their children Carla M. Boggs Sweet of Berkeley Springs, WV, Mark A. Boggs of Frederick, MD, Neil G. Boggs of Fairfield, PA, Shaun M. Boggs of Sharpsburg, MD. A treasured son - Grandville Blair Boggs preceded his father's death in 1994; he is missed daily.

Mr. Boggs, informally and locally well-known by his middle name "Blaine", was a 1950 graduate of Spencer High School, at which he excelled as a 4-year letterman on the varsity football team. Following graduation, Blaine enlisted with the United States Air Force. He was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant within the Air Police division of the USAF-Strategic Air Command. He proudly served our country in that capacity for 14 years at both domestic and foreign (Greenland, Newfoundland, and North Africa) duty stations.

Blaine and family relocated from Columbus, Ohio in 1971 to Linden WV and built a home on the property of his birthplace. Thereafter, Mr. Boggs accepted a position at the Spencer State Hospital in the capacity of Environmental Health & Safety Manager and Director of Housekeeping Services, from which he retired after a combined 24 years of military and State of WV civil service.

Blaine was a voracious reader, an obsessive boatsman and fisherman, storyteller, an unabashed and unapologetic frequent contributor to the Op-Ed section of the local newspaper, a gardener, a machinery tinkerer, a shameless regaler of his children's accomplishments, and an avid fan of Marshall University & West Virginia University football teams. As a member historically of a number of local churches including most recently The Faith Baptist Church of Spencer WV, he was always quick to quote Scripture and discuss his valued relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 27, 2015 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, with Rev. Robert Holland officiating with music by Tracy Miller and select readings by the Honorable Mayor Terry A. Williams. Burial will be in the Young Cemetery, Linden.

He requested a special note of appreciation be extended to his caregivers- Bridgette Bragg, Tara Linkinlogger, and Patricia Saddler for all the care, concern, love, and support put forth during their tireless efforts to ensure his final days were comfortable. The family suggests making charitable donations to Hospice of Kanawha Valley, in lieu flowers.
