Local County Extension Agents, Brandy Brabham and Daisy Bailey will offer you all the tips you need to prune your fruit trees successfully at a two-hour pruning workshop on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The course and demonstration will take place in the outdoors, so participants are urged to dress for the weather conditions.

Proper pruning will improve the health, appearance, and productivity of your fruit trees. Have you ever watched a professional prune a tree or shrub and wondered, "Why did he make that cut in that spot?, or Why did he switch the pruners from his right to left hand?, or When does he choose a pruning saw instead of loppers?, or How does he make these decisions so quickly?," Brabham and Bailey, who have collaborated on many educational projects, will answer these questions and will cover numerous types of fruit trees.

Educators will give a talk and then demonstrate pruning techniques that are useful for backyard gardeners. They'll discuss pruning as part of the overall management of fruit trees and will field questions from participants. Key tips on the proper timing of pruning and how pruning can be used with other management techniques to fight disease will also be offered.

For more information or to pre-register, contact the WVU Extension Offices in Calhoun County or Roane County at 304-354-6332 or 304-927-0975.
