HALEY SMITH ARCHER JOINS HEARTWOOD IN THE HILLS FACULTY - Spring Program Begins March 9

(02/18/2015)
Heartwood in the Hills is proud to announce that Haley Smith Archer will be joining the faculty of Heartwood's Performing Arts Program (PAP) for Spring 2015.

A Calhoun County native and CHS graduate, Haley began studying dance and theatre at Heartwood at age 11, dancing at many Heartwood community and statewide performances, December Celebrations and Wood Festivals.

Military travel has taken the Archer family up the coast from North Carolina to Virginia. Haley and husband, Charles, recently returned to Calhoun. The couple has two children, Rylan, a first grader at Pleasant Hill Elementary and member of Heartwood's Creative Arts for Childrens Class and Emersyn, who will be two this Spring.

‌ Classes for the Spring Program will begin Monday, March 9. A mandatory orientation for Performing Arts Program students will be held Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Heartwood.

Haley will be teaching the Introduction to Ballet class for students of Heartwood's Performing Arts Program. She will be working directly with Artistic Director Jude Binder who will teach Theatre Dance and will supervise rehearsals for Heartwood's Spring Performance and classes.

"From the very beginning of my childhood, I have always been interested in movement, dance and performing. From majorettes and cheerleading, to studying ballet and modern dance, my love of movement has always provided me with a physical and creative outlet", Haley said. In addition to joining the Heartwood faculty, Haley is vice-president of Heartwood's volunteer Board of Directors.

Haley graduated from West Virginia University with a minor in dance. While at WVU she took classes in ballet, modern, and African dance. When her husband was stationed in Havelock, North Carolina, at the Cherry Point Marine Corpos Air Base, she furthered her dance studies with tap lessons and performed in an annual show with the Morehead City Dance Arts Studio Academy of Performing Arts in Morehead City, NC.

"I am very excited to be a member of the Heartwood faculty. It is a very special place for me and to be able to teach Heartwood's children how to dance will bring my journey full circle. I'm looking forward to a great Spring program!", she said.

Heartwood is now taking enrollments for the Performing Arts Program. It is open to children, ages 10 and up, and teens and adults who wish to learn to dance and perform. There are no auditions to join. However, as a member of the PAP, students must commit to take at least two classes per week and attend all rehearsals per month to prepare for the Spring Performance. Parents and guardians of students are also asked to make the commitment to see that their children attend classes and rehearsals.
