Red Devils Run Over Braxton, 55-43

Calhoun placed three players in double figures as it scored a 55-43 victory over Braxton County Jan. 22, 2015, evening its record at 6-6. Tyler Sims led the way with 18 points while Ethyn Miller added 12 and Zack Yanero 10. Dylan Heiney and Dakota Jarvis had five each while Sam Brady added three and Tyler Gerwig two. Luke Sheldon, Lucas Wilson, and William Baker all played but did not score.

Braxton County got 11 points from Peyton Lockhard and 10 from Jarrett Shingler to take a 55-31 victory in the junior varsity game.

Caden Hicks led Calhoun with nine while Sonny Wilson added six, David Washington five, Case Carter three, Ben Frederick, Ross Vineyard, Dakota Jarvis and Austin Gribble two apiece. Chris Kirkland, Kaleb Nicholas, Jaron Hall and Noah Allen all played but did not score.

Icy Trip Ends In Defeat For Calhoun Calhoun was as cold as the weather in the first half as it dug itself a hole it could not get out of in a 73-57 loss at Webster County Jan. 27, 2015.

The Highlanders roared to a 41-25 halftime lead and repelled the Red Devils' comeback in the second half.

Sophomore Dalton Grey led the way for the Highlanders with 22 points while Robbie Cogar chipped in with 14, Brian Andrews with 13 and Travis Williams 10.

For Calhoun, 6-7, Tyler Sims led the way with 21 points, including 17 in the second half. Ethyn Miller added 13, Sam Brady and Dylan Heiney seven each, Dakota Jarvis five and Lucas Wilson four. William Baker, Zack Yanero, Luke Sheldon and Tyler Gerwig all played but did not score.

Webster pounded Calhoun 73-24 in the junior varsity game behind the shooting of Billy Wilson (13) and Matthias Palmer (12).

Austin Gribble led the way for Calhoun with eight points while David Washington had five, Chris Kirkland and Ross Vineyard four each and Ben Frederick three, Caden Hicks, Sonny Wilson, Dakota Jarvis, Kaleb Nicholas, Jaron Hall and Noah Allen all played but did not score.

Clay Wins Foul-Plagued Slugfest Over Calhoun

Calhoun County was called for 26 fouls and allowed the double-bonus in both halves in suffering 64-51 loss on the road at Clay County Jan. 29, 2015.

Despite the Red Devils being in foul trouble most of the way it took Clay a while to take the lead and pull away.

While Calhoun was whistler for 26 fouls Calhoun never made it to the free throw line on a one-and-one situation. In the second half when Clay was finally called for its seventh foul (a one-and-one bonus threshold, the seventh four was a shooting foul, which negated the one-and one.

Clay's all-state football player Stephen Cole led the way with 21 points - nine from the free throw line. He was backed by Noah Taylor with 16 and Jarrod Woodyard with 11.

Calhoun, 6-8, was led by Tyler Sims with 19. Ethyn Miller added nine, Zack Yanero seven, Sam Brady six, Lucas Wilson five Dylan Heiney three and Dakota Jarvis two. Luke Sheldon, Tyler Gerwig,William Baker and Austin Gribble all played but did not score.

Clay County also won the junior varsity game by a 53-29 score, Nate Canfield led Clay with 19 while Levi Ramsey added 13, For Calhoun Austin Gribble led the way with 17. He was backed by Case Carter with five, Ross Vineyard with four, Ben Frederick with two and Caden Hicks with one. Sonny Wilson, David Washington, Jarvis, Kaleb Nicholas, Chris Kirkland, Jaron Hall and Noah Allen all played but did not score.

For Kirkland, Hall, Allen and Nicholas the game marked their first starting assignment.
