LOCAL YOUTH THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS AND TECHNICAL CREW REGISTRATIONS FOR "NOISES OFF"

(04/08/2015)
Mid-Ohio Valley high school and early college aged young adults are invited to audition on April 11 and 12, 2015 for the local Theatre de Jeunesse free theatre arts program's July production of the comedy classic "Noises Off" by Michael Frayn.

Those preferring technical theatre can register instead to join the technical crew and: assist the Technical Director in the design and creation of the set, props, lights, and sound for the production provide the technical support for the production as: stage crew, stage manager, assistant stage manager, and lightboard and sound operators assist the Costumers in the research, design, and construction of costumes register as student intern to learn the principles of directing, costuming, makeup/hair, or properties and provide hands-on assistance with these activities.

Nine roles available and approximately 10 technical crew members will be selected.

Auditions and tech registration will be held: Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 1:00 - 4:00 at the Hermann Fine Arts Center, 500 Butler Street in Marietta and Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2:00 - 5:00 at the Parkersburg Academy, 1800 38th Street in Parkersburg.

Act I of this hilarious comedy is set at the dress rehearsal of the stage show "Nothing's On" where the cast of itinerant actors is hopelessly unready, and baffled by entrances and exits, missed cues, missed lines, and bothersome props, including several plates of sardines. In Act II the set rotates 180 degrees to show the backstage chaos ensuing during a Wednesday matinee highlighting the deteriorating relationships between the cast members that lead to offstage shenanigans and onstage bedlam.

The play falls into disorder before the curtain falls. In the Act III final performance, we see that personal friction has continued to increase. The actors remain determined at all costs to cover up the mounting series of mishaps, but it is not long before the plot is abandoned entirely and the more coherent characters are obliged to take a lead in delightful ad-libbing towards some sort of end.
