UPDATE: CLAY MAN SHOOTS INTRUDER TO DEATH - Sheriff Says Homeowner Won't Be Charged

(01/17/2015)
A Clay County homeowner shot and killed an armed intruder inside his home at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Clay County Sheriff Garrett Samples.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department has identified the man killed in the shooting as Charles Wyatt, 54.

Samples said no criminal charges will be filed against the man who fatally shot the intruder at his Little Beechy Fork residence.

Sheriff Samples said the homeowner, Jerry Quinn, 64, was in bed when he heard an intruder inside of his residence.

Samples said initial evidence suggests it was self-defense. He said Quinn kept a weapon in a bedside table, but the investigation will continue.

The incident apparently stemmed from a land dispute.
