COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS NOW HAVE UTVS FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE - Westfall Selected Commission President, Board Of Equalization Dates Set

(01/14/2015)
911/OES Director Kathy Wood reported at the Calhoun Commission meeting that all three volunteer fire departments will now have use of UTVs for emergency responses to difficult situations, the latest two vehicles having been acquired by Minnie Hamilton Health System and placed at the departments.

Wood said AT&T is reportedly improving cell phone service in parts of Calhoun, with specific information regarding the improvements not available.

Cell phone companies have for several years denied an offer by the Calhoun Commission to allow them to install transceivers on the county's three 911 towers without charge.

The commission appointed Scottie "Chip" Westfall as president for 2015 and set dates for sitting as a Board of Equalization and Review.

A report was heard regarding the upgrading of Frontier landline service in Five Forks and Big Springs, which is nearing completion, according to Frontier.

The commission has continued to apply to obtain grant money for development of the Calhoun Park's Night Skies astronomy proposal. The latest development grant is for $16,225.

The commission passed a resolution supporting Sarah Nott's Law, a proposal to enforce banning horizontal parking in front of many convenience stores adjacent the highway that caused her death.
