Calhoun had four players in double figures as it turned a fourth quarter rally into a 60-51 victory over visiting Roane County Thursday night.

Roane held a four-point lead heading into the final period, 45-41, only to have Calhoun roar from behind with a 19-6 advantage to grab the lead and hold it the rest of the way.

Tyler Sims had 17 to lead a quartet of Red Devils in double figures. Sophomore forward Zack Yanero followed with 13 despite being in foul trouble from the middle of the second quarter on. Sam Brady and Dylan Heiney added 10 apiece while Ethyn Miller scored eight to barely miss putting all five starters into double figures. Tyler Gerwig added two off the bench while Lucas Wilson and Luke Sheldon both played but failed to score.

The Raiders, 4-6, started off quickly and rushed to am 18-13 first quarter lead ebfore Calhoun righted itself and chipped into the margin. The Red Devils managed to cut the lead to two, 35-33, despite the three-point bombardment by Roane's Kaleb Greathouse, who had three treys in the second. Overall, Roane had seven three-point field goals to Calhoun's two.

But the Red Devils withstood the long range shooting and came back late in the game by displaying a great accuracy at the free throw line - Calhoun was 24 of 27 including 10 of 13 in the final period - and getting strong inside play from Brady, Yanero and Gerwig off the bench. The three held Roane's inside game to 17 points after surrendering 33 in the first game of the season - an 84-61 setback.

Along with scoring 25 of Calhoun's points the inside players also managed 18 rebounds, led by Brady's 10.

The Raiders were led by Eli Kuchawry and Ryan Errickson with 15 each.

Greathouse added nine, Daniel Heeter six, Ryan Bates four and Drew Kinder two.

Roane won the junior varsity game but it was much closer than the first time the two teams played. Back in December Roane put a 61-22 licking on the Red Devils but Thursday night it was all the Raiders could do to come away with a 48-42 win.

The killer for Calhoun probably was the second quarter when it was outscored 11-2 turning a Red Devil lead into a deficit they were never able to make up.

Ben Fredrick led the Red Devils with 18 points. He was followed by David Washington with seven, Dakota Jarvis with six, Austin Gribble with five, Ross Vineyard with four and Sonny Wilson with two. Caden Hicks and Case Carter both played but did not score.

Calen Shirey led Roane with 18. He was backed by Cecil Willis with 11, Ethan Moffett with eight, Caleb Moore with five, Dalton Simmons with three, Ethan Myers with two and Hunter Thompson with one. Caleb Cottrell and Hunter Moore both played but did not score.

Calhoun returns to action next Tuesday night at home to Clay County while Roane entertains Braxton County the same night.
