Most of the time "one" is a good thing. Such as "we're Number One" or "Number One with a bullet" or some such thing. But one is not a good thing when that's the number of points you score in a quarter.

That's what happened to Calhoun County en route to a 53-44 loss to visiting Webster County Tuesday night at Mt. Zion.

The Red Devils were but two points behind Webster, 16-14, when the second quarter began. But when Calhoun only scored one point in the quarter the Red Devils were in a hole they'd have to try to dig out of and that's even though the Highlanders only scored 10 in the saame span. But that nine-point edge, coupled with Webster's two point advantage going into the second proved to be just too much for Calhoun to overcome. Although the Red Devils did cut the margin to five on a couple of occasions.

Dylan Heiney, in his first game back following a car accident, and Sam Brady led Calhoun, 2-5, with 13 each. They were backed by Tyler Sims with 10, But Calhoun got little scoring elsewhere as Ethyn Miller had seven, Tyler Gerwig two and Luke Sheldon one. Lucas Wilson and Zack Yanero both played but did not score.

Junior point guard Robbie Cogar led Webster, 5-3, with a game high 15 while Haydin Williams had 10. However, there was strength from the rest of the Highlanders as Dalton Gray had nine, Brian Andrews seven and Ben Cochran and Travis Williams six apiece.

The Highlander reserves won the junior varsity game, 61-22, by following pretty much the same pattern.

After a close 16-7 first quarter the Highlanders scored 16 straight to open the second quarter en route to running away with things. Brandin Miller led the Highlanders with 16. He was followed by Cole McCourt weith 10, Logan Given and Billy Wilson with nine each, Mathias Palmer with eight, Cody Lowther with seven, Brady May with three, Ike Hamrick, Chase Rose and Michael McComb with two each and Tony Mazzelo with one.

Calhoun was led by Austin Gribble with six while Dakota Jarvis and David Washington had five each and Case Carter with four and Caden Hicks with two. Ben Fredrick, Sonny Wilson, Chris Kirkland, Kaleb Nicholas, Ross Vineyard, Jaron Hall and Noah Allen all played but did not score.

Calhoun will try to get back on the winning side of things when it plays host to Roane County Thursday night.
