There was a big crowd at the Creston auction Friday evening. Folks were packing bargains out the door going in every direction & the 50/50 was worth $75. Some folks from the head of Lower Barnes Run were the lucky ones on that.

Rev. Keith Belt filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

The Roane County state road crew took crusher run and filled most of the bad potholes from the Wirt County line out to the intersection of the road going down Lower Barnes Run. Those who travel the road daily for work or taking children to the school bus have a much easier trip now with less wear & tear on tires & vehicles.

Gay Park is still on the sick list but she says that she is now some better. She has had various types of respiratory problems after her sojurn at the Camden Clark resort & spa.

Judy Meadows, age 66, passed away. She was the daughter of Lucille & the late Bob Basnett.

Thelma Mollohan age 59 passed away. She was the daughter of Arnold "Pee Wee" and Bonnie Board Mollohan. She & her family formerly lived at Creston. She is survived by sisters Doris & Connie Mollohan and brother Mike.

Ray Gumm reported that his grandson shot a black bear up near Glady. Grandpa was proud to say the least.

Charles Russell was calling on Mr. & Mrs. Paris Parsons, Ray Gum & brother Euell at the Miletree Center. Edith Kittle noted that she had several visitors during the Christmas season. She recounted some stories about "Shine" Brotton.

Curtis Marks, John & Jake Griffin were among those calling on C. I. Russell.

Freddie Bush is continuing with his timber job between the Ann's Run road and Pete's Run. Pete's Run was named after Revolutionary War patriot Peter McCune who has descendants living in the area.

The "global Warming" fraud has been making headlines both nationally and down at the Mouth of the Elk. On the national level it has now been determined that for the past 18 years there has been no warming and both the Arctic and Antarctic ice shelves are at record levels. Some may remember last winter the ecotourist ship which was to "show melting ice at the south pole" got stuck and had to be rescued at American taxpayer expense. Perfesser Richard A. Feely of the Pacific Marine Environmental Lab., part of NOAA, a taxpayer funded federal entity, recently got caught flat out lying to congress and the world about the "newest threat" of the ocean becoming acidic because of CO2. He published a graph showing the pH of the ocean dropping at a fast rate and when a PhD student from the U. of New Mexico asked for the data going back for the last century [which he knew existed] he was told by Feely that it was inappropriate for him to impugn the "motives or quality of our science" and warned that if he continued in this manner "you will not last long in your career." Feely who won a big prize from the Heinz Foundation told the student "I hope you will refrain from contacting me again". When the data which went back prior to 1900 was platted on the graph it was clear that there was no drop in the pH of the ocean. Someone said those "scientists" have nothing in the game and wouldn't lie but there is an annual $22 billion federal slush fund for "global warming/climate change" stuff and that will bring out lots of pseudoscientists and all sorts of con men, etc. Some may remember Solyndra, the taxpayer funded windmills, solar panels, pixie dust, etc.

Down at the Mouth of the Elk a couple of people "had the audacity" to question what was being taught to the children in West Virginia schools and it was noted that there were some serious questions about what Albert Gore, Jr. had called "settled science". Chad Colby who is big in the Common Core hoax and Lisa Hoyos, Chuck Anziulewicz & other true believers in Rev. Al Gore's Church of Anthropomorphic Global Warming are having a fit that anyone would dare question the dogma of what apparently is the official religion of the so called educated elite & would be ruling class. They remind one of the so called religious folks who made Galileo recant what he had learned about the solar system under penalty of death & those in New Testament times who did not believe what Isaiah had written centuries before.

November had been cold around Creston for the most part but December & early January have been warmer that usual and the Chinese stink bugs have been out and about & flying about in local homes. It seems they were imported from China in the 1990s "as a cultural thing". Cold weather is in store though soon enough.

New House of Delegates member Roger Hanshaw will meet local residents at the Little Court Room at the Court House in Grantsville on Tuesday January 6 at 6 P. M. He represents the Calhoun County part of Creston. The Clay County native has a PhD from Purdue as well as a law degree from the university at Morgantown. No doubt the little Unger boy's tank bill fiasco will be a topic of discussion. Mr. Southern who was one of the record owners of the tanks that leaked bad stuff into the Elk near the mouth was upset that the authorities wanted to confiscate his $7 million retirement fund and his Bentley.

Antero announced that they plan on cutting back on their drilling program because of the crash in crude oil prices caused by the Arab attack on the United States shale plays. Meantimes Aubrey McClendon's AEP (American Energy Partners) is opening an office in the Minnite office complex overlooking the Ohio River not too far from Marrtown. HG or whomever continues to drill on Laurel just over the hill from Brohard and it is said 35 wells are to be drilled in the Clover field just a little south of Spencer. Talk now is that all of HG's assets were sold to McClendon who formerly ran Chesapeake Energy.

It was learned that the State Insurance Commissioner has filed an action in Kanawha County Circuit Court, 14-C-1975 asking that Jim McGoldrick & Little Kanawha Publishing Co. be prevented from operating in W. Va. until Workmen's Compensation Insurance is obtained, fines are paid, etc.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dropped to $51.69/bb with drip or mountain high test falling to $27.69/bbl. or just 66 cents/gallon. Marcellus & Utica light is $45.69 and medium fetches $51/69/bbl.
