Call it the holiday "blahs" or whatever but whatever you call it, it caught up with Calhoun's offense and the Red Devils fell to Wirt County, 45-32, Saturday night in the consolation game of the Wirt Holiday Tournament.

Calhoun was unable to hit on 30 per cent of its field goal tries and the offense had its worst game of the season even though the defense held Wirt to a very winnable (for Calhoun) score.

After an 8-8 first quarter Calhoun continued its offensive doldrums hitting just 24 points the rest of the way. Wirt, meanwhile, slowly pulled away.

Calhoun was led by Tyler Sims with 12 while Sam Brady added 10. Nobody else reached, or even got close to, double figures.

Tyler Gerwig and Zack Yanero had four apiece while Austin Gribble had two. Nobody else, including all-tournament selection Ethyn Miller, managed to score as Lucas Wilson, William Baker and Dakota Jarvis were all shut out.

Wirt did not fare much better as Hunter McCoy with 16 and Luke Smith with 12 were the only two Tigers to get in double figures. However, the Tigers got six from Kyle Windland, four from Austin Young, two apiece from Tristan Nichols and Drew Adams and one from Ricky Conley.

Huntington St. Joseph's won the championship winning a close game from Williamstown, 59-57.

Calhoun returns to action Jan. 6, 2015, at home against Webster County. Wirt County is at home to Roane County the same night.
