The Creston auction will be Friday, January 2, 2015, starting at 6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. Folks are always looking for something to bring in the New Year with and this is one outing that is guaranteed not to give one a thumping hangover. Col. Dobbins brings all sorts of interesting items and tasty food and, of course, there are the goodies from the kitchen complete with the special Creston hot dog sauce.

Rev. Keith Belt filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

The DNR, those always helpful people who brought us so many deer one cannot have gardens & fruit trees without fencing, the coyotes that like lambs, calves, etc., the mountain lions, rattle snakes and goodness knows what else now want to import an elk herd. The DNR claims the deadline for comments is December 29 but, in any event their address is 324 Fourth Avenue, South Charleston, W. Va. 25303 with an e-mail DNR.Wildlife@wv.gov. One can imagine what an elk would do to an automobile and they do carry chronic wasting disease which, of course, would be fatal to cattle.

Ellen Hedge, Fred & Betty Bish have all had the nasty flu that is making its rounds. Gay Park, the young at heart lady that lives on Burning Springs Run, got to spend a few days at the "resort" where they serve you breakfast in bed. She noted that she got to come home Christmas Eve.

Freddie Bush moved his logging equipment which had been parked in Creston.

Someone is timbering in the stand of young poplar between the Ann's Run road and Pete's Run near & around the ball field.

Anna & Adam Yates were visiting at the Engelke residence on the West Fork.

Brandon Ferrell, The Moth Man & Sandy, Cooter, Sis, J. P. & A. C. Marks were all calling at the Creston Space Dock. Cap'n Spock helped A. C. Marks repair his spacecraft.

Sarah & Todd Rhodes and two daughters were calling in Creston over the weekend.

J. P., A. C. Cooter & Sis Marks were calling on Mr. & Mrs. R. P. Marks & Ryland up in Ohio.

A number of dignitaries from Parkersburg and surrounding communities decided that they would go to Minot North Dakota [the State Capitol] to see what the impending Marcellus & Utica boom would look like. Some suggested they could drive around Doddridge, Tyler, Wetzel & Marshall Counties but one does wonder why they chose Minot instead of Williston which labels itself "Boomtown USA" and actually lives up to its name.

HG announced that they firm plans to drill some slant hole wells and some vertical holes in the Clover oil field south of Spencer. A couple of months ago Aubrey McClendon's AEP Marcellus paid the royalties from the Clover wells so the actual ownership is not all that obvious. HG sold several properties to AEP.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude rose to $56.12/bbl. with drip gasoline (42 gallon bbl.) fetching $32.12 and Marcellus & Utica light $50.12 and medium $56.12/bbl. The crash in oil prices has wiped the communist Russian economy and many fear that Putin, the present dictator there may take drastic measures or have some of his toadies, like Iran, Syria, etc. do something like start a Mideast war or some such. The Saudis have made it clear that they feel that the development of the shale fields in America is hostile to their interests and they count Jimmy Carter and the Big Eared One as in their camps. Putin, the Russian ruler has praised the New York governor for stopping hydraulic fracturing in that state as now fields in Siberia can be fracted with abandon without the worry of competition from the Utica and Marcellus plays in upstate New York. The price of natural gas produced on Chestnut Run In November was.$1.68/dekatherm or mmbtu.
