RAVENSWOOD PLANT LOST $7.8 MILLION IN THREE MONTHS - No Plans To Cut 660 Jobs

Century Aluminum of Ravenswood, which employs 660 area workers, does not plan lay offs after the company lost $7.8 million in three months. Dividends have been suspended.

Pechiney Rolled Products, which operates part of the plant, has announced 202 people will be layed off in their division, after their company experience financial difficulties.

Century reported a loss of $15.8 million the first nine months of 2002.

The company declared they expected to continue operating at full capacity.
