CALHOUN RED DEVILS CRUISE PAST BRAXTON 65-51

Calhoun used a strong inside-outside game and placed three players in double figures to cruise past homestanding Braxton County, 65-51, Thursday night.

Tyler Sims scored 22 from outside and Sam Brady 14 from inside to lead the way while Ethyn Miller chipped in with 11.

Calhoun grabbed the lead early with a 13-9 first quarter advantage behind the shooting of Sims then broke the game apart with a 23-19 second quarter then continued to pull away the rest of the way.

Tyler Gerwig added seven for the 2-2 Red Devils while Luke Sheldon had five. William Baker had three, Lucas Wilson two and Austin Gribble one to round out the scoring. Zack Yanero and Dakota Jarvis both played but did not score.

Dylan Heiney was dressed but did not play. Heiney was injured in an automobile accident Monday night and it was his first day back in uniform.

For Braxton County, 1-1, freshman Tayton Stout led the way with 17. He was the only Eagle to score in double figures.

A.J. Jordan was next with nine. He was followed by Brent McMillion and Cale Browning with six each. Josh Skidmore had five, Trae Stout four, Ben Fincham three and Heath Cottrell one rounded out the scoring.

In the junior varsity game Braxton, 2-0, won handidly 67-39 although the Red Devils, 0-4, did close the gap considerably in the third quarter with a 21-14 edge when three varsity players - Yanero, Gribble and Jarvis - were able to play that quarter.

Jarvis led the way with eight while Ross Vineyard added seven, Caden Hicks six and Gribble and Ben Fredrick had five apiece. Yanero had four, David Washington three, Sonny Wilson two and Chris Kirkland added one to round out the scoring. Case Carter, Kaleb Nichols, Jaron Hall and Noah Allen all played but did not score.

Hunter Drake had a game high 19 for the Eagles while Cottrell added 16. Tayton Stout, Cody Dobbins and Payton Lockhard had six each, Jesse White four, Cooper Brady and Garrett Shingler had three apiece and Fincham one to round out the scoring.

Calhoun is idle until Dec. 26 when it plays in the Wirt County Tournament. Other teams in the tournament include Williamstown, Huntington St. Joseph's and host Wirt.

There will be no reserve games in the tournament.
