A group representing Calhoun's FFA proposed to the school board Monday to use school property to grow cane.

FFA teacher Donald Poage said, "We have researched the sugar cane growing, a learning experience for our students."

The project has received a $1,000 Resource Development Board grant to West Fork Community Action of Arnoldsburg, a group interested in the project in growing cane for the Molasses Festival.
