Carolyn S. Rader 94, of Elizabeth WV passed away Tuesday November 25, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her Family.

Born Eva Carolyn Sims, July 29, 1920 in Waynesburg, PA, she was the eldest of six children of the late Camden Arthur and Jessie Jobes Sims. She lived Elizabeth as a youth before her family moved to Wood County, living in Williamstown and Parkersburg before settling on a farm in Washington Bottom.

She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1938, then from Glenville State College in 1944 with a teaching degree.

Carolyn married Raymond Paul Rader, Sr. June 15, 1950 and returned to Elizabeth, where she lived the rest of her life. She briefly stayed with and cared for her mother until her mother's death in 1984. She also stayed with her aunt in South Charleston to help care for her cousin Patricia Cochran Bryan. After Pat's death in 1989, she continued staying with and caring for her Aunt Mazie Sims Cochran until her aunt's death in 1998.

Carolyn was a life-time member of West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees and Wirt County Association of Retired School Employees, having taught in Wood and Wirt Counties for over 33 years. She was a member of TOPS WV#149 having maintained KOPS status for over 25 years; a dispatcher for the Wirt County Emergency Squad; and a member of American Legion Post #55 Auxiliary.

She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church for over 60 years having served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir, a member of ABW, and a Deaconess. As a deaconess she felt it her duty to minister to the care of the elderly woman of the church including Mrs. Edith Marshall, Mrs. Ethel Pettit, and Mrs. Elma Coe.

She is survived by her five children, daughters Susan Agnes and Alan Edward White of Sylvania, OH and Jessie Ellen and Jonathan Clifford Spero of Williams, OR; sons Raymond Paul and Sandy (Keen) Rader of Huntersville, WV, James Arthur Rader of Elizabeth and Frederick Lee and Carolyn Rose (Schmitt) Rader of Vienna.

Eight grandchildren Megan Rebekah (White) and Bill Richards of Toledo, OH, Elissa Rachel (White) and Jory Lee Peterson of Holland, OH, Andrew Logan White of Sylvania, OH, Elijah Orion Spero, Rose Spero, Heidi Eve Spero, Emily Rose (Rader) and Ryan Neely of Leeds, England, and Eric Lee Rader of Vienna; two step-granddaughters, Buffy Wiseman and Jodie Dye; four great grandchildren, Alexander Jase Peterson, Annabel Jorlie Peterson, Louisa Jaynen Peterson, and Maxim Joryevich Peterson; six step-great-grandchildren, Tara Ann, Mollie Elizabeth, Dianara LaShay, Anthony Scott, Brianna Nichole, and Courtney Olivia; two brothers John Benjamin Sims of Washington, WV; William Camden and Maryanne (Morgan) Sims of Raleigh, NC; two sisters Marjorie Nelle Crooks of New Hope, PA and Betty Sue and Chuck Wilson of Mechanicsburg, PA; several nieces and nephews; several cousins including Joe Sims, Pauline Sims George, Harold Sims, Roy Sims, Benny Sims, Mike Sims, Eleanor Pitzer, Jeanne Pitzer Jones, Joanne Pitzer Morris, and John Harris; and hundreds of former students.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond, Dec. 2, 1971; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Lee and Dr. Neil B. Webb; sister-in-law Betty Joan (Sindledecker) Sims, brothers-in-law Claude Rader, and Arthur and Iva (Whited) Rader, sisters-in-law Mae (Rader) and Clay Anderson, and Cathyleen (Rader) and Bill Evans; and her grandparents Benjamin Jonathan and Susan Roanne (Smith) Sims, and John Franklin and Evaline (Wilson) Jobes.

Services will be 11:00 am Saturday November 29, 2014 at the Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Rev Mark McCloy and the Rev Leary Vanhorn officiating.

Visitation will be Friday November 28, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth WV. Interment will be at Two Run Cemetery, Palestine WV.
