Firemen tackle steep woods blaze

With winds gusting over 30 miles an hour Monday afternoon, 911 dispatched the Grantsville VFD to a brush fire on a ridge off Richardsonville Road.

Firemen responded to the scene at 12:40 p.m.

The Elizabeth-Wirt VFD and the Spencer-Roane VFD were also called for assistance, in addition to the WV Forester.

A report indicated the fire was likely started with an electric line short.

Fortunately, in later afternoon the wind calmed.

Firemen were on scene until 5 p.m.

The fire was off rural Richardsonville Road, about four miles from Creston on Goosenest Hill.
