Sylvia Bailey Osborne, 87 - Glenville

Sylvia Bailey Osborne age 87 of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life peacefully at her daughter Freda's home, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 following a brief illness.

Born May 5, 1927 in Davin, WV, she was the 3rd of 16 children to the late Nelson P. and Edith I. Gibson Bailey.

Sylvia loved her family, fishing, gardening, flowers, cooking, and most of all, attending church. She was the oldest member of The Church of God in Cox's Mills, and was a retired cook of Glenville State College. In addition to raising her 12 children she also raised several grandchildren. She also attended the Gillman Bottom Freewill Baptist Church for the last 2 years.

Surviving are 11 children, Shirley Wolfe (Paul) of Auburn, WV; Madeline Osborne of Stanleytown, VA; Dean Osborne of Cyclone, WV; James Bailey (Kay) of Cox's Mills, WV; Freda Gibson (Billy) of Cyclone, WV; Edith Lemon (Mark) of Williamstown, WV; Darlene Cottrell (Wayne) of Glenville, WV; Ronald Osborne (Liz) of Auburn, WV; Vickie Sorrell (Mark) of Cottageville, WV; Shurdon Osborne of Fort Worth, TX; and Johnie Osborne (Marion) of Florence, SC.

There are 58 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, 16 great great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, May June Lilly of Cox's Mills, WV;, and Beatrice George of Hurricane, WV; 1 brother, Hansford Bailey of Wardenville, WV; and many nieces, nephews, and a number of close friends also surviving.

Along with her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by 12 siblings, 1 daughter, Norma Gibson, 1 grandson, Jerry Lilly and 3 infant grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her brief illness, especially Southern West Virginia Hospice Care, her daughters, Freda, Madeline, and Darlene, and granddaughters, Pam, Savanna, Tammy, and Melinda.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Church of God, Cox's Mills WV., at 11:00 a.m. Friday November 21, 2014 with Billy Ray Gibson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Horn Creek Cemetery in Cox's Mills. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday Evening at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV, 26351.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in her name to Southern West Virginia Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25801.
