Bernice Hawkey, 94 - Grantsville

Bernice Hawkey, 94, of Grantsville passed away November 4, 2014 at Eldercare of Ripley, WV following a long illness.

She was born July 25, 1920 in Calhoun County, one of seven children, of the late Mallie and Florence Elliott Sturm.

Bernice and her late husband, Bernard, resided on Sycamore Rd. in Calhoun County for many years. She moved to the Mt. Zion Ridge after her husband passed away in 1970. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for many years before she became ill.

Bernice is survived by one daughter, Donna Lancaster, of Grantsville; two grandchildren, Amanda Wayne of Grantsville and Melissa Ives of Tucson AZ; six great-grandchildren, Morgan and Victoria Moneypenny and Dakota, Donna, Danielle, and Charles Ives; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hawkey in 1970; a daughter, Nancy Hawkey in 1970; three brothers, Otho Sturm, Holden Sturm, and a twin borhter, Bernard Sturm; three sisters, Azeline Hersman, Margarete Morgan, and Eleanor Boyles.

Funeral services will be held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Rick Metheney will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
