Harlan fired seven shots from a 12 gauge shotgun into the front door of the home on Fourth Avenue in Montgomery. The shotgun blasts blew off the door knob and the lock allowing Harlan entry. Once inside, investigators said he shot the "demon dog" five times with a .357 pistol and killed it.

Police were called by neighbors who heard the gunfire.
