Calhoun County will have an early doe season this Thursday to Saturday on private land only. The portion of Stumptown WMA in Calhoun will NOT be open to the early doe season.

The early doe season is a great way to get does out of the herd before the rut. These does taken early will not compete for food with other deer. Less does in the herd will make the bucks have to search harder for receptive does during the rut. Taking does leads to a more balanced herd. Currently, Calhoun probably has too many does and not enough bucks in my opinion.

Please take a child out doe hunting this weekend. Don't forget the orange. Sight in your guns before you head to the woods. Make sure to check in that deer after the harvest. Good luck.
