I School officials were made aware of the situation by another student, who saw the gun in the 16-year-old's jacket pocket, Sgt. Paul Perdue, Charleston Police Department.

Perdue said the teenager told school officials that he found the unloaded weapon "in the yard". No reason was given as to why he brought it on school property. When officials at the school found out about the situation, they notified the school resource officer.

FAMILY ESCAPES - A Boone County man is facing numerous charges after troopers said he held his family hostage Tuesday.

A trooper was dispatched to a "domestic situation," and the trooper was told that the suspect, Cameron Booth, 38, was barricaded in his home, threatening to kill his wife and three children.

During an argument, Booth held a kitchen knife to his throat, and told his wife he was going to kill himself. Booth's wife tried to take the knife away, and got a small cut on her hand.

His wife tried to leave with the children. Troopers said Booth told his wife he would kill himself if she did.

Court documents say Booth laid the knife down, and the family went to sleep. Shortly afterwards, Booth got back up, got the knife, and brought it with him to bed.

Shortly afterwards, his wife was able to post a status on social media asking for help. Troopers were notified of the situation because of that post. The information was obtained by a CPS hotline call that was made to the West Virginia State Police.

Booth was arrested, and taken to South Western Regional Jail.
