ROANE VOTERS COULD CHANGE SUNDAY HUNTING BAN

(10/21/2014)
Roane and Mason voters will make a decision on Nov. 4, an option to to change the law against Sunday hunting on private land.

Former Calhoun resident Cory Boothe pushed an initiative for Sunday hunting in May, and it was approved in Braxton, Calhoun, Nicholas, Webster, and Wirt County.

Once you cross the bridge into Ohio, you can hunt all the way to the Pacific Ocean on Sundays, Boothe said.

In 2001, most West Virginia counties that had Sunday hunting on the ballot failed, with wide opposition from church groups.

Sunday hunting has been legal in 14 counties in West Virginia since 2001 without any incidents, Boothe said.
