James E. "Sam" Fields, 68 - Parkersburg

James E. "Sam" Fields, 68, of Parkersburg, formerly of Walton, died Oct. 15, 2014, after a battle with cancer.

He was the son of the late Harry and Virgie Fields of Walton, W.Va.

Jim graduated from Walton High School in 1964, where he loved playing all sports, especially football. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. He retired from E. I. DuPont in 2000, after working there for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching all sports on TV.

He is survived by a daughter, Leslie M. Thompson, and son-in-law, Joe Thompson; two granddaughters, Lyndsey and Hannah Thompson, all of Shady Spring, W.Va.; a son Nathan Fields of Vienna, W.Va.; a brother, Alan Fields of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Joretta Taylor of Scot Depot, W.Va.; ex-wife, Shirley Fields of Parkersburg; a special friend, Lydia Buffington and family; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and John; and two infants.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Michael Lamb officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home.
