NATIONAL SAVE-THE-CHILDREN PARTNERS VISIT ARNOLDSBURG ELEMENTARY - "Impressed With Arnoldsburg Kids," Sen. Edgell Recognized For Funding Playground

Save-The-Children partners and supporters, one of the highest ranked international non-government organizations dedicated to helping children achieve a lifetime of learning, came to Arnoldsburg Elementary School Monday.

They met with school administrators and teachers, taking a tour of the school, where Save-the-Children is a partner in helping children succeed.

State Senator Larry Edgell (D) with Arnoldsburg principal Jeannie Bennett, presented a $22,500 legislative award to Arnoldsburg School for playground equipment, and was recognized for his contributions to help Calhoun County, including funding for a new courthouse roof

Arnoldsburg Elementary is one of a number of West Virginia schools participating with Save-the-Children.

Anna Hardway, Save-the-Children Deputy Program Director, said, "We have a valuable and supportive relationship with Arnoldsburg, a school dedicated to making it work."

"The partners were impressed with the stories Arnoldsburg kids told," Hardway said.

Last year, Arnoldsburg Elementary, out of he state's 404 elementary schools, ranked 81st in math, reading, and language, indicating improvement.

That ranking indicates Arnoldsburg School ranked better in improvement than 80% of the state's elementary schools.

Save-the-Children serves through home visits, parent-educator groups, child play groups and storybook hours, with other outreach. "We have been fortunate at Arnoldsburg to have lots of parental involvement, many who come out to help with the Save-the-Children project," said principal Jeannie Bennett.
