Georgia Gladys "Jo" Bowers, 87, of Slate, Wood County, died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Eagle Point Nursing Home,
Parkersburg.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Manuel Morford and Effie Leora Clark Bowers and
granddaughter of the late Daniel Minter Bowers and Mary Armina Midcap Clark Bowers, who raised her.
She was educated in Calhoun County schools at Pink and Leatherbark and worked at the Sewing Room in
Arnoldsburg. On January 1, 1948, she moved to Slate.
Surviving are one niece whom she raised, Effie Fern Dickel of Parkersburg; one nephew, Billy Ray Bowers of Vienna; two
half-sisters, Bessie Lavina Bowers of Spencer and Opal Gladys Bowers Boggs of Mogadore, Ohio; and three sisters-in-law, Jean
Kiser Bowers and Joyce Justice Bowers both of Spencer and Viola Layman Bowers of Atwater, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Cassie Leora "Kay" Bowers Wallbrown; one brother, Guy Minter Bowers;
one nephew whom she raised, Irwin Manual Guy "Manny" Bowers; three half-brothers, Levi Franklin Bowers, Woodrow Walter
Bowers and Morford Russell Bowers; two step-sisters, Goldie May Clowser Carpenter and Sadie Belle Carpenter Miller; one
step-brother, Orland Gay Wright and her step-mother, Armeda Margaret Buck Carpenter Bowers.
Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg.
