HARRISVILLE MAN DISCOVERED IN HUGHES RIVER - Vehicle Lands On Top

The body of a Harrisville man, Herbert Anderson, 32, was discovered Saturday evening, up side down in his vehicle which landed in the Hughes River. Anderson, known to have a diabetic problem, drove into the river about one mile west of Smithville on State Route 47.

The accident was reported about 5 p.m.

Emergency workers said about 6" of the tires on his vehicle were visible when they arrived. The Smithville VFD responded with other emergency services and law enforcement from Harrisville.

Authorities first thought another person might have been in the vehicle, although it was discovered Anderson was alone.

The body is at the Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville.
