DELEGATE STEMPLE NOT ENDORSED BY LABOR - House And Senate Leadership Bypassed

(10/13/2002)
The AFL/CIO has endorsed all the Democrats running for Congress, plus 73 Democrats, five Republicans and one member of the Mountain Party in races for the West Virginia Legislature.

Absent from the endorsement was Delegate Bill Stemple of the 33rd District and numerous other southern Democrats, including the house and senate leadership, mostly supporters of former Governor Cecil Underwood, and outspoken advocates for the coal and timber industry.

The Democrat candidate for the State Senate from the 2nd district Larry Edgell, was endorsed by the union.

Delegate Stemple has voted with the southern block on raising the weight limits of coal trucks and supported the Underwood's Managed Timberlands Bill which ended up giving a 60% tax break to large timber corporations.
