| Basil J. Bumgarner 91, of Pee Wee WV passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Clarksburg VA Medical Center.
He was born In Reedy WV on March 2, 1923 the son of the late Joseph and Nina Geer Bumgarner.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church where he served on the Pisgah Cemetery Association, was a Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher, and a church Lay Leader.
He was a member of the Wirt County Farm Bureau, West Virginia Teachers Association, Retired from the Labors Union Local 1085 of Parkersburg WV, and retired from The Wirt County Board of Education as a school bus driver, and enjoyed farming and going to church.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Phyllis (Berton) Robinson of Winchester VA, Drenda Hutchinson of Elizabeth WV, and Sheila (Mark) Dye of Pee Wee; 10 grandchildren, Alexa (Timothy) Haselhorst, Jason (Angela) Hutchinson, Trena (Nathan) Carpenter, Erin Robinson, Matthew (Christina) Dye, Brandon (Katlyn) Dye, Justin (Connie) Hutchinson, Hannah Robinson, Philip Robinson, and Devin (Brianne Davis) Dye; 10 great grandchildren, Kamryn and Braxton Carpenter, Peyton and Parker Dye, Caleb, Mitchell and Drew Haselhorst, Dylan and Easton Hutchinson, Bristol Dye and Hadley Dye; 2 sisters, Marie Posey of Florida, and Delores Ann Thorne of Parkersburg WV; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife of 66 years Norma Gladys Wells Bumgarner; 1 daughter, Brenda Sue Bumgarner; 1 son-in-law Ronnie Hutchinson; 9 brothers and sisters, Mildred Sellers, Roma Bumgarner, David (Hoyt) Bumgarner, Hazel Casto, Theodore Bumgarner, Beulah Cook, Heisel Bumgarner, Jenning (Paul) Bumgarner, and Carroll Bumgarner.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday September 20, 2014 at Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Donzol Murray officiating. Visitation will be Friday September 19, 2014 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth WV and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Pisgah Cemetery.
