EXPERIENCING THE OUTDOORS - Bow Season Opens September 27th

Archery season for deer and bear opens on September 27th. Anyone wishing to harvest more than one deer with a bow needs to purchase an additional bow stamp before September 27th. Anyone wishing to harvest bear must purchase a bear damage stamp.

This year, anyone that has harvested a buck in Calhoun, and wishes to get another, must kill a doe before doing so. The same rule will apply in gun season for Calhoun.

I urge all hunters to check regulations as this can get confusing. A doe harvested in another county does NOT count towards the doe needed to be killed in Calhoun before taking a second buck with a bow or gun. Also, the statewide limit on bucks is three per year.

Good luck this archery season. Always wear a safety belt. Their seems to be lots of mast so hunters should concentrate on oak thickets more so than fields.
