The Calhoun County Marching Band attended the 66th Annual Mountain Forest Festival in Elkins this past Saturday, October 5. The band participated in both the parade and field show competitions with an estimated 30 other bands from around the Tri-State area. The bands were split into 4 classes, Calhoun competed in the Class 1 competition.

The competition began with a three mile parade around Elkins. Calhoun Marching Band competed against seven other bands during this part of the competition. Matthew Bonar received 4th place for drum major and our band received 7th place for over all parade. After the parade the band did an early performance for the field show competition, leaving them with 6 hours to await the awards ceremony. The final awards for our band were 2nd place drum major and 5th place band in our class.

This was the first competition for over half the band members and first for the season. Calhoun Marching Band expects to do better in their next competition at Marshall University on November 2.

Matthew Bonar placed 2nd in Drum Major category
