(08/23/2014)
An Elizabeth man has been charged with 1st degree sexual abuse by Trooper M. D. Strobbe, after receiving a complaint from a Palestine woman.

Larry Menefee, 66, was charged by Magistrate Janey Wigal and released on bond following the July 27 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Menefee went to the woman's residence inquiring about purchasing an old truck belonging to the victim's father.

After looking at the truck, the complaint says Menefee grabbed the woman kissing and fondling her, with the woman resisting, pushing Menefee out of the dwelling.

Trooper Strobbe, after contacting Menefee, said Menefee admitted to offering the woman $200 for the truck and admitted he asked her if she had anything to do with men, then said he gave her a 30-second hug, indicating he fondled her.

A hearing has been set for Sept. 5.
