Corey Michael Bell, 31, of Grantsville, WV, had an eventful week, including his arrest on the campus of Glenville State College. Glenville Police filed three charges of obstruction against him for making false statements.

Bell fled Calhoun County Tuesday evening after someone at his home called police reporting a possible domestic abuse incident. Following a several hour manhunt, police caught up with the suspect early Wednesday morning after receiving a tip from security officers at the college.

Bell gave a false name, lied about the location of his residence and gave a false date of birth to officer Jeremy Jenkins of the Glenville Police Department, according to the criminal complaint. Bell was subsequently arrested and transported to the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods.

Two obstruction charges were dropped at Bell's Friday afternoon hearing before Gilmer County magistrate Alton Skinner. The defendant pled guilty to the third. Magistrate Skinner sentenced him to time served plus a $50 fine.

Bell was released from custody at that time, according to the magistrate.

Bell promised the court they'd never see him again in Gilmer County.

As of late Friday afternoon no additional charges were pending against Bell in Calhoun County, according to the magistrate clerk there.

Calls to Baltimore U.S. District Court, Baltimore Circuit Court and Baltimore Magistrate Court showed Bell's only warrant was for a state probation violation filed in April. Officials there said if he returned to the Baltimore area he'd be taken into custody, but otherwise didn't seem too interested.

Officials at the Central Regional Jail said no hold requests had been received for the defendant, pending extradition to Maryland.

Earlier reports indicating Bell was wanted for attempted murder could not be substantiated Friday.

Bell was taken into custody without incident at Glenville State College. He was there asking people for money so he could travel to Baltimore, the police report said.

The Grantsville City Police Department could not be reached for comment.

Corey Michael Bell, 31, was charged with three counts of obstruction, according to a criminal complaint from the Glenville Police Department.

Bell fled the Grantsville area where police conducted an intensive search for him, including the use of search dogs.

Glenville police found him on the campus of Glenville State College, and detained him for the arrival of Grantsville Police Chief Andy Walker.

According to the complaint, Glenville police said Bell was crying and asking for money so he could go to Baltimore MD, saying he gave a false name of Samuel Jones, and denied living in Grantsville.

The Grantsville chief identified the man as the subject being involved in a domestic dispute.

Grantsville Police Chief Andy Walker said Bell was wanted for the attempted murder of a Baltimore police officer, but was acting on information he had received regarding an outstanding warrant, which is not likely accurate.

The Hur Herald could not confirm that there was an outstanding warrant for Bell, after contacting the Baltimore Police Department.

Walker said the man was using an alias in Grantsville.

No charges have been filed against Bell in Calhoun Magistrate Court related to the domestic dispute in Grantsville, indicating Bell may not have been a perpetrator in the dispute.

Calhoun prosecutor Shannon Johnson said the investigation into the matter is continuing.

Bell is incarcerated in Central Regional Jail, with bail set at $15,000 for the obstruction charges.

It was not clear regarding Bell's relationship to those living in the house, having moved to Grantsville last year and purchasing a house. Neighbors told the Herald they had not caused problems in the neighborhood.
