George Lee Tomblin, 91 - Stouts Mills

George Lee Tomblin, 91, of Sliding Run Road, Stouts Mills Community, departed this life Friday evening, August 8, 2014 at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, WV, following a brief illness.

Born on Tomblin Run in Gilmer County on July 11, 1923, a son of the late Arthur and Emsy Canfield Tomblin.

George was a coal miner and construction worker at Darnell Mines, Four States Mine, R and P Mine, and Marks Construction until retiring in 1982. He was also an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European campaign. He enjoyed hunting deer and squirrels, loved farming, working with horses, playing with children, working jigsaw puzzles, and would do anything to help his neighbors.

On March 13, 1948 he was united in marriage to Nora Collins, who preceded him in death on June 27, 1992.

Surviving is 1 daughter Judy Wiant and husband Ed of Sliding Run Road, 1 granddaughter Amy Jarosz and husband Stephen of Scarbro, WV, and 1 great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jarosz also of Scarbro, WV.

Also surviving are 2 brothers, Joe Tomblin and wife Tess of Kansas City, MO and Monroe Tomblin and wife Ruth of Pennsboro, WV, 1 brother-in-law, Hayward Mick of Heaters Fork, WV, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by 1 brother James Tomblin and 3 sisters, Londa Rigney, Orneda Mick, and an infant sister.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the John/Shiflet Cemetery on Turkey Fork. Friends may call from 11-1 Thursday morning at the Mortuary.
