Robert Eugene Wright, 71 - Spencer

Robert Eugene Wright, 71, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Beverly J. Wright and sheltie, Bonnie Gene; also surviving, sisters-in-law, Dareth Harris of Ravenna, Ohio and Melanie Taylor of Pinch; special cousin, Dr. Miles Holloman of Yazoo City, Miss.; several nieces, nephews and adopted families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William B. Wright of Burnt House; mother, Margaret Holloman Murphy of Lexington, Miss.; sister-in-law, Pamela Metz Leathem; brothers-in-law, William Harris and Jarrell Miller; mother and father-in-law, Marjorie A. and the Rev. Orville F. Walker.

He started working for the WV Department of Highways in 1964 and retired with 42 years or service as an Enforcement Officer with the Public Service Commission. He was the owner and operator of Burnt House Oil and Gas. He graduated with the wonderful class of 1962 of Harrisville High School. He attended Glenville State College and later earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from WVU-P.

Bob was an avid car enthusiast. He loved those Chevrolets but really any make of fine car. He loved NHRA and attended the Spring Nationals in Columbus, Ohio starting in 1972 until closing in 1990's. He loved NASCAR, car and truck racing, (huge Earnhardt fan) and ARCA racing, also Barrett Jackson. He was a founding member of the Spencer Chevron's car club during the 1960's. He loved it all. He was a drag racer himself for many years. He participated in car shows.

He leaves behind a host of friends, too many to mention. You all know he loved you.

Bob was a Christian and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Spencer.

We wish to thank attending physician, Dr. Grant Parkins and staff at Roane General Hospital, the ER physicians and staff, Roane County EMS staff, Dr. Susan Cole of David Lee Cancer Center, Charleston, palliative nurse and John H. Taylor Funeral Home staff.

Beverly wants to thank the God sent caregivers, April Starcher, Robert Shaffer and David Perkins, for their support.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Doug Sandy officiating. Interment will be in a private cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
