The post office at Big Bend could be one of thousands of US post offices targeted for closure, having now been listed for cutback in hours.

The Big Bend post office, like most of the remaining post offices in Calhoun, excluding Grantsville, has been cutback in hours.

Hundreds of rural post offices in WV have been targeted for closure, many have already been closed, while others have been cut back to a few hours being open each day.

Several hundred distribution centers have been closed or targeted.

The US postal system is trying to reduce billions of dollars of deficit spending for a system that has been assaulted by 21st Century technology and other carriers that provide delivery service.

A public meeting regarding the proposed changes at Big Bend was reportedly scheduled this week.

In West Virginia, US Postal has quickly closed rural post offices when they found a legal loophole to do so.
