(07/17/2014)
An Orma, Calhoun man has been charged with domestic assault and battery and is in Central Regional Jail.

State Police arrested Joel C. Hayes, 31, following what a criminal complaint said was a violent dispute on the right fork of Rush Run.

The complaint says that Ruth Wears attempted to keep her granddaughter's fiancé [Hayes] from breaking her computer when he punched the wall and threw his cell phone on the ground.

Trooper B. K. Shingleton in the complaint says Hayes took his three-month-old baby from his fiancée Brittnay Kearns, who then attempted to take the baby back.

Hayes, according to the complaint, said "If she tried to take the baby back that he would slit her throat, and if he went to jail he was going to kill the baby."

The officer said he observed bleeding on Ruth Wears' from a two inch cut of her wrist, related to the altercation.

Kearns said that "incidents like this happened multiple times and stated she was scared for the child and herself," requesting a Domestic Violence Petition.
