Rev. Keith Belt filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

There will be a flea market at the Creston Community Building on Saturday, August 9 starting at 8 A. M. Those who chase fleas and look for bargains need to mark their calendars for this. There will be food served, etc.

Local residents got to look at the "super moon" over the weekend. The moon was full when the orbit of the moon around the earth was closest.

There will be a meeting on the proposed closure or reduction of hours of the Big Bend (Brooksville) post office at 5:45 P. M. July 24 at the Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church. All patrons should attend to make it crystal clear that the office should not be closed and that mail should continue to be sorted at the local post office, not elsewhere. One positive point on keeping the post office is that the building is owned by a Washington, D. C. outfit that obviously has connections to the "right people". When the Creston office was closed the postal bureaucrats ignored their own rules and law so one can only hope.

Jeremy Ferrell has accepted employment with Trenton Energy.

Some critter with sharp claws "harvested" an immature winter squash from a Creston area garden.

The Creston area, as elsewhere, had a storm and wind, blowing down sweet corn and elsewhere removing at least one barn roof. Power was lost and some local residents were without for days. One day eight vehicles from Toledo Edison were seen going down the road and other trucks were in the area from Virginia. Several Calhoun state road trucks went up the Richardsonville road to remove trees and debris from the roadway.

When it wasn't storming some more first cutting hay was harvested as well as some fine second cutting in instances were hay was made in May.

The state road wildflowers along W. Va. 5 at Creston are now in bloom.

Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell & family spent the weekend in Pittsburgh visiting daughter Missy and friends and checking out points of interest.

For those who have questions and issues relating to workmen's compensation it should be noted that the annual meeting for Brickstreet Insurance will be July 28 at 9:30 A. M. at the office at 400 Quarrier Street (the Mall) down at the Mouth of the Elk.

Bernard Smith was attending to business in Creston over the weekend.

Alex Mooney who is running to replace Shelly Moore Capito in the U. S. Congress was visiting in Wirt County earlier this month. Longtime Congresswoman Shelly Capito is now running for the open U. S. Senate seat.

Charles Russell was calling on Mr. & Mrs. Parris Parsons, Ray Gumm, who celebrated his 78th birthday, and brother Euell. Also over at Miletree, Edith Kittle celebrated being 80 years young.

HG Energy published legal notices that they planned to drill at least seven (7) horizontal wells on Laurel in Ritchie County which would be considered part of the old Hartley oil field.

Those who are in or who wish to join the Wirt Oil & Gas group should get their paperwork in to the office which is in the old credit union office on Juliana Street in Elizabeth. Abstractors are back in the Calhoun County court house and more Marcellus wells are planned in Gilmer County with talk of more Utica locations in both Jackson & Wirt counties. Some folks signed lease modifications giving away all the gas liquids [for one Ritchie County well that was $800,000 for one month] and 10% of the natural gas [payment at 90% of the inside FERC price]. Folks should be careful about what they do and sign.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil fell to $100.33/bbl. with drip fetching $77.33, Marcellus & Utica light $93.83 and medium $99.83/bbl.

Carl Ferrell & helpers, Josh McAbee, et al. have a new roof on the main part of the residence formerly occupied by Noah & Garnet Mowrey and before that Beatrice Ledsome Marks.
