WEST CENTRAL BEEKEEPERS KEEPS THINGS BUZZING

(07/11/2014)

By Sharon Christ
Secretary, WCBA
304-927-1775

The West Central Beekeepers Association [WCBA] meeting of June 28 was hosted by Larry and Marianne Siers of Elizabeth.

Dale Cunningham, President, was on hand to provide updates on the status of pending grant applications, as well as demonstrate the use of new electronic equipment and educational materials which have been purchased through funds provided by a recent grant approval of Our Communities Foundation in Parkersburg.

This equipment and video materials will be used in conjunction with teaching of future classes and demonstrations, as well as outreach programs to local schools.

Wade Stiltner, West Virginia Bee Inspector, demonstrated a live hive inspection, as well as how to split a hive. The split from that hive was donated as a door prize from Marianne and Larry, who also donated an additional hive, as well as some hand crafted items which were created from locally grown WV woods, such as Black Walnut, Cherry and Oak.

After the demonstrations and business of the day, a picnic lunch was enjoyed by all who attended.

The next WCBA meeting will be returned to its usual location of the Roane County Committee on Aging building in Spencer.
