CALHOUN SCHOOL BOARD MOVING TO END $600 SUPPLEMENTS FOR TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES

(06/03/2014)
All Calhoun school employees will likely be getting a pay cut.

The Calhoun Board of Education is seeking approval from the WV Board of Education to reduce a $600 pay supplement that had been given to Calhoun teachers and service employees some years back.

The benefit was given to improve salaries.

The board is moving ahead with cut-backs toward balancing a county school budget, dealing with deficit problems.

The move being necessary since county voters did not approve an operational levy.

The school board has indicated other cuts will be made to keep the system afloat.

Timothy L. Woodward, Calhoun Superintendent of Schools, said the cuts would reduce the annual budget by about $115,000 annually.

Woodward said the cut-backs would go into effect during the 2014-15 school year.

At last week's meeting, the board approved their current levies and approved the 2014-15 budget.

Future Board Meeting Dates:

June 16, 2014, Regular Meeting, 6:30 p.m., Calhoun Board of Education
